hygiene presentation: deodorant/antiperspirants
Hygiene: (Discussion with the class)
As boys and girls mature and go through puberty, the body goes through many changes. One of those changes is the increased production of sweat, or perspiration, from the sweat glands. Perspiration is normal and important... it helps your body regulate its temperature. But, once you hit puberty, it can also cause body odor.
Your family can make the decision whether you use underarm deodorants (counteract odor and help you smell better), antiperspirants (reduce perspiration and underarm wetness as well as help prevent odor before it starts), deodorant/antiperspirants (do the job of both) or body sprays. You will also decide on the brand, type and kind.
Your child will be given a sample of Old Spice (for boys) or Secret (for girls) solid stick deodorant/antiperspirant in class the week of August 6th. It is suggested that they keep it in their backpack for use after PE, but the use is a family decision. I am still waiting for the delivery of the Old Spice... it may or may not be donated to us this year.
Proctor and Gamble has supplied the samples free of charge. If you would like a copy of the Always Changing and Growing Up boys or girls guide, please send me an email, and I will send one home with your child.
